- Blockchain gaming firm Immutable announces a partnership with Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab to develop Web3 games.
AAA gaming studio Ubisoft has partnered with blockchain game firm Immutable to collaborate on developing Web3 games through its Strategic Innovation Lab.
According to a release shared with Cointelegraph, the two studios will pool their resources to combine conventional gaming production excellence with Web3-enabled functionality.
Ubisoft’s blockchain endeavor is led by Nicolas Pouard, who emphasized that Immutable’s existing blockchain infrastructure and experience incorporating decentralized functionality into games were key drivers of the partnership:
“We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience.”
Immutable co-founder and CEO James Ferguson stated that the collaboration is a significant step forward for the Web3 gaming industry.
“We couldn’t be more excited to explore with Ubisoft the benefits of Web3 and digital ownership for players. We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to bear to ensure the partnership’s success,” Ferguson said.

The collaboration follows successful demos of Immutable’s major titles, which include Guild of Guardians, Metalcore, Shardbound, and Infinite Victory. These titles provide gamers with a variety of genres to explore, as well as defining Web3 characteristics such as immutable ownership of in-game assets.
Immutable also recently launched the test network for Immutable zkEVM, its zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup gaming solution. ZK-rollups have been in the spotlight throughout 2023 as a significant layer-2 Ethereum scaling technology that enables high-throughput and low-cost transactions for decentralized applications, services, and solutions.
To date, the company has released two ZK-based scaling solutions: Immutable zkEVM, which runs on Ethereum layer-2 Polygon, and Immutable X, a separate rollup solution built by ZK pioneers StarkWare.
Immutable’s gaming platform enables game companies to create games that run on the Ethereum network.
As the year 2024 approaches, Web3 games are making inroads into the mainstream gaming space. Illuvium Labs’ flagship gaming title, Illuvium, will be listed on mainstream gaming publisher Epic Games Store on November 28, which is home to highly popular games like Fortnite.
